Homemade Party Pimento Cheese Dip Recipe

Pimento Cheese

Pimento cheese dip is a cheesy, creamy, and sweet pepper dip, that is the perfect snack to have on hand for any occasion. Anything from a gameday tailgate to an afternoon snack! The dip is made with sharp cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and mayonnaise. Fresh jalapeño and cayenne pepper give the dip a spicy kick, which you can certainly omit them if that’s not your thing! Lastly, the addition of garlic and onion powder make this pimento cheese dip addicting- it’s hard to stop eating the entire bowl!

Pimento cheese always makes me think of my parent’s house. Any time I go to visit, there is always a tub of store-bought pimento cheese dip in the fridge. Sometimes, they’ve also a back up container stocked, just in case we run out. My family is very passionate about snacks, and this dip specifically. Here is my own version of it!

I wrote this recipe for a Snack Series, featured on my Instagram page, in preparation for the 2021 NFL Super Bowl! During the snack series, I released two chip dip recipes, a chili recipe, and a recipe for cheeseburger fries. All are verified perfect for a game watch, or a party, or for whenever you want a fun snack or meal. If you’re looking for more snack recipes, check out this baked spinach artichoke dip recipe!

Things you may be curious about pimento cheese dip…

So if you haven’t had pimento cheese dip before, you may be wondering, what are pimentos anyway? They are actually that little red pepper stuffed into the green olives you buy in a jar! And actually, you can find pimento peppers next to the olives in the grocery store. They are more mild in pepper flavor than a bell pepper, but not a spicy one. They are perfect for this dip because of their subtle sweetness. You may also see them named pimento or pimiento- same same!

Pimento cheese is also really synonymous with Southern food and cooking, most likely due to where pimento peppers are grown. Georgia is one of the major pimento-producing states, so it could be why pimento cheese dip could have gained in popularity in the Southern U.S. This article from Serious Eats was a really interesting read, as is the history of one of my favorite snacks!

Homemade Pimento Cheese Dip

Pimento cheese dip is a delicious, creamy, and cheesy dip studded with diced pickled pimento peppers. I like to make it spicy with a minced jalapenos and cayenne pepper.
